Reschedule a French Appointment: Confirm the New Time

Practise changing a French appointment: explain you cannot come, respond to an offered slot and check the replacement. Hear four complete confirmation models.

Quick answer: To reschedule an appointment in French, identify the existing booking, say Je ne peux pas venir and ask to move it. Respond to the proposed time, then check the replacement with C'est bien ça ? A new time offered in a conversation still needs agreement.

Move from a proposed time to a confirmed change

  1. Identify the appointment you already have.
  2. Explain that you cannot attend and ask to move it.
  3. Respond to the time the staff member offers.
  4. Check which appointment the new time replaces.
  5. Repeat the agreed day and time.

To reschedule an appointment in French, identify the booking you already have, explain that you cannot attend and ask for a different time. Listen to the alternative before accepting it. End by checking which old appointment the new one replaces.

A service conversation usually uses vous. The scenes below practise that relationship. Keep a note of the original time while you speak: a suggested slot and a confirmed change carry different information. All days and times in these exercises are fictional practice examples.

Ask to move the appointment you already have

A useful written opening is Bonjour, j’ai rendez-vous mardi à dix heures. Je ne peux pas venir. Est-ce qu’on peut déplacer le rendez-vous ? — “Hello, I have an appointment on Tuesday at ten. I cannot come. Can we move the appointment?”

The original day and time identify what you want changed. If you are making a first booking, start with the French appointment phrases guide. This exercise starts with an appointment that already exists.

Larousse uses déplacer for changing the date or time of an appointment. For postponing it until later, reporter gives that direction. Saying the actual new time is clearer than leaving the listener to work out how far you mean to move it.

Practise and compare proposed and confirmed times

Read the staff member's reply, decide what it tells you, then try your own French answer before opening an example. Allow yourself about eight quiet seconds, or take longer. These new rescheduling scenes are written practice.

1. Respond to a new slot being offered

Existing appointmentStaff member's new offer
Tuesday at 10:00Thursday at 11:00

Je peux vous proposer jeudi à onze heures.

I can offer you Thursday at eleven. That time works for you. What has happened so far?

Choose what you know from the staff member's words.

Reveal the offer explanation and one possible reply

Je peux vous proposer… offers a possibility. This scene has not yet stated that the old booking has been changed. Accept the suitable time and check the replacement.

Jeudi à onze heures me convient. Donc, c'est jeudi à onze heures à la place de mardi à dix heures, c'est bien ça ?

Thursday at eleven works for me. So it is Thursday at eleven instead of Tuesday at ten, is that right?

2. Check the replacement after agreement

The staff member answers your check:

Oui, votre rendez-vous est maintenant jeudi à onze heures. Celui de mardi est remplacé.

Yes, your appointment is now Thursday at eleven. The Tuesday one is replaced. Which time should you repeat?

Choose one time after reading the agreement.

Reveal the confirmed time and a closing reply

The staff member explicitly replaces Tuesday with Thursday in this scene.

D'accord, jeudi à onze heures. Merci beaucoup.

Okay, Thursday at eleven. Thank you very much.

3. Decline a slot that does not fit

Start a separate scene. Your existing appointment is Wednesday at 15:00, but you cannot attend it. You can come on Friday only before 13:00. The staff member offers vendredi à quinze heures — Friday at three p.m.

Use the time you can actually attend in this fictional scene.

Reveal one possible reply about the time limit

Je ne suis pas disponible à quinze heures. Avez-vous un créneau avant treize heures ?

I am not available at three p.m. Do you have a slot before one p.m.? Friday at 15:00 falls outside the stated limit.

If your partner then offers Friday at eleven and confirms that it replaces Wednesday, repeat Vendredi à onze heures, d'accord. Keep those two extra turns written, or let your partner say them.

These choices check your reading of the scene. Say the French reply aloud; the webpage does not assess it.

Hear a fixed appointment confirmation

These four players belong to Parle's original “Confirm the appointment” task. The appointment is already fixed; the conversation asks for its time. It is a separate model from the new written rescheduling scenes above.

The whole generated French reference recordings were created through the OpenAI speech service. The voices are synthetic, and the files are unchanged. This first-party guide was prepared with AI assistance. Native Pause keeps your place. Closing a model stops and rewinds it; starting another stops the previous one.

Hear the agent's original confirmation

Bonjour, je confirme votre rendez-vous de demain.

Hello, I confirm your appointment for tomorrow.

Reveal the customer's original time question after your attempt

Merci. À quelle heure ?

Thank you. At what time?

Hear the agent's original ten-thirty answer

À dix heures trente.

At ten thirty.

Reveal the customer's original closing reply after your attempt

D'accord, merci beaucoup.

Okay, thank you very much.

Demain means “tomorrow” relative to the original conversation. It does not identify Thursday in the written exercise. Likewise, the recorded 10:30 answer keeps its original time; the changed 11:00 replies are written examples.

Keep the request, offer and agreement separate

Je voudrais déplacer… makes a request. Je peux vous proposer… gives an offer. Votre rendez-vous est maintenant… states the agreed change in the first scene. These verbs help you tell what you know at each point.

When you give an availability limit, before 13:00 and at 13:00 are different. Say avant treize heures for a time earlier than one p.m. If you mean exactly one, say à treize heures. An offer can be clear French and still be unsuitable for your schedule.

For another round, let a partner change one day or one time. They read the staff role; you identify the existing booking, ask for a change, respond to the offer and repeat the agreed replacement. Use the numbers and time practice when reading the clock itself needs rehearsal.

Continue with Parle’s existing confirmation task

The free website’s Confirm the appointment role-play supplies the original task: the agent confirms the appointment, and you respond and thank them. In Parle on iPhone or iPad, use Course → A1.2 → Everyday services → Confirm the appointment.

The new rescheduling scenes in this article extend that confirmation practice on the website. The current App task is the original fixed-appointment conversation. Everyday services is Premium. All 35 Sounds and the first four First Contact missions are free; Premium opens the current 120-mission App course.

Parle lets you record and replay attempts. Phrase Match reports recognized model words; it does not decide whether a booking was changed or score your accent. Keep the original appointment and the agreed replacement in your own spoken reply.

Frequently asked questions

How do I ask to reschedule an appointment in French?

Je voudrais déplacer mon rendez-vous asks to move an appointment. Give the original day and time, explain when you can come, then respond to the staff member's offer.

Does reporter mean moving an appointment earlier?

For an appointment, reporter means putting it off until later. Déplacer can describe changing its date or time. Name the new day and time so the direction is clear.

How can I check that the new appointment replaces the old one?

Repeat both times: Donc, c'est jeudi à onze heures à la place de mardi à dix heures, c'est bien ça ? This checks the replacement instead of simply repeating one possible slot.

Are the rescheduling scenes recorded conversations?

The four players contain Parle's original fixed-appointment confirmation models. The new rescheduling scenes and changed times are written practice. They have no new recording or voice assessment.
