Explain a Booking Error in French: Listen and Correct the Name

Practise a French ticket-name correction with four whole audio models. Report an error, give the correct surname and check what the agent promises.

Quick answer: To explain a booking error in French, report the problem, identify the incorrect detail and supply its correction. In this fictional ticket scene, your surname is Dupont and the ticket says Durand. Try your replies before revealing the whole audio models, then check what the agent promises. The scene does not show a newly issued ticket or establish a real provider’s correction policy.

Report the problem, then give the correct name

  1. Look at the fictional ticket and explain the problem before revealing the model.
  2. Hear the agent’s question and give the correct surname.
  3. Check the general problem, the two names and the agent’s intention.
  4. Hide the models and repeat with a different written name pair.
  5. Transfer the correction pattern to the current wrong-date role-play.

To explain a booking error in French, report the problem first, then name the incorrect detail and supply its correction. In this fictional ticket conversation, you practise two speaking turns: opening the request and giving the correct surname after a question.

The four recordings are complete original lines from Parle’s Booking error mission. The exercise helps you rehearse French; it does not change a reservation. For a real booking, follow the provider’s actual process, documents, fees and restrictions.

Identify the wrong detail on the practice ticket

For this role-play, your surname is Dupont. The fictional ticket below says Durand. Your job is to explain that difference to the agent.

Listen, hide and give your two replies

The audio uses synthetic voices generated for Parle through the OpenAI speech service. This guide was prepared with AI assistance. Each player contains one complete original course line.

You already know the two written names. The checks below practise meaning and retrieval; they are not a blind listening test or an assessment of your pronunciation.

Your first speaking turn: greet the agent and say there is an error on your ticket. Try the opening before revealing the traveler’s model.

Reveal the traveler’s opening after your attempt

French opening · Traveler

Bonjour, il y a une erreur sur mon billet.

English meaning: Hello, there is an error on my ticket.

Choose what the opening reports before the traveler gives a specific detail.

Hear or read the agent’s question

French question · Agent

Quelle est l'erreur ?

English meaning: What is the error?

Your second speaking turn: the printed surname is Durand, but your surname in this scene is Dupont. Tell the agent which detail is incorrect and give the correction. Keep the reply hidden until you have spoken.

Reveal the traveler’s name correction after your attempt

French correction · Traveler

Le nom est incorrect. C'est Dupont, pas Durand.

English meaning: The name is incorrect. It’s Dupont, not Durand.

Choose the intended surname, keeping it separate from the incorrect printed one.

Hear or read the agent’s response

French response · Agent

Je corrige cela tout de suite.

English meaning: I’ll correct that right away.

Choose what this reply actually says about the correction.

Understand the correction pattern

Il y a une erreur sur mon billet. reports a problem with your ticket. It leaves the type of error open. In the next turn, Le nom est incorrect. identifies the surname as the problem.

C’est Dupont, pas Durand. puts the intended name first and the incorrect one after pas. Keep that order when you practise: you want the agent to use Dupont.

In the final reply, cela refers back to the error you have just explained. Tout de suite means “right away.” The agent expresses an immediate correction action. The exercise ends there, so it does not demonstrate that a replacement ticket has been issued or that a real provider permits this change.

The checks have three separate answers: a general ticket error, Dupont replacing Durand, and the agent saying they are correcting the error immediately. The fictional ticket image continues to display the starting mistake; it is not a confirmation document.

Change one name pair in a written-only practice

Use one of these fictional pairs for a second attempt. These are written-only variations; the four players retain their original recordings with Dupont and Durand.

Correct surname / incorrect printed surnameWritten French correction
Martin / MoreauLe nom est incorrect. C’est Martin, pas Moreau.
Laurent / BernardLe nom est incorrect. C’est Laurent, pas Bernard.

If you want to add a polite request, rehearse this written-only line: Pouvez-vous corriger le nom, s’il vous plaît ? — “Can you correct the name, please?” There is no additional recording for it on this page.

Choose Stop audio and hide all models, then practise with a partner. You open the conversation, your partner asks Quelle est l’erreur ?, and you supply the name correction from memory. Your partner can use the original response for the fictional role-play. Reset practice choices clears the three choices and closes all four models.

Transfer the pattern from a name to a date

The current Booking error role-play gives you a booking with the wrong date. That is a separate variation of the skill you have just practised: report the mistake and ask for the correction.

Its existing response frames are Il y a une erreur sur la date. — “There is an error on the date” — and Pouvez-vous corriger la date ? — “Can you correct the date?” Use date for that task, rather than repeating the surname correction. The linked unit provides its existing date models; the four players above remain the name-example dialogue.

In the App, use Course → A2.2 → Travel disruptions → Booking error. This webpage is free; the App’s Travel disruptions unit is Premium. All 35 Sounds and the first four First Contact missions are free, while Premium opens the current 120-mission course. Web practice does not record an App mission completion or request a real booking change.

For another scene involving missing details, the student-card request and follow-up practises fees and readiness messages. To practise giving a reason and contact details by phone, use the French voicemail exercise.

Frequently asked questions

How do I report a mistake on a ticket in French?

Bonjour, il y a une erreur sur mon billet means Hello, there is an error on my ticket. This opening reports a general ticket error. Give the incorrect detail and its correction when asked.

How do I say the name is incorrect?

Le nom est incorrect means The name is incorrect. In this practice, C’est Dupont, pas Durand identifies Dupont as the correct surname and Durand as the incorrect printed name.

Does the agent’s last line prove that the ticket has been replaced?

No. Je corrige cela tout de suite expresses the agent’s immediate correction action. These four lines do not show a corrected ticket being issued, any charge or permission to board.

Can I hear my own name in the recordings?

The original recording uses Dupont and Durand. Additional name pairs on this page are written-only variations. The players keep the complete original course lines.

Why does the linked App exercise use a wrong date?

The current Booking error mission uses a name correction as its model example, then asks you to transfer the reporting-and-correction pattern to a wrong date. The date role-play is a separate valid variation.
